Playoff Hero Leader Re-Signs With Royals

by Ryan Eakin

GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce the re-signing of three-time IBL All-Star Andy Leader.

Leader, 27, will enter his first full season with the Royals in May after being acquired in-season a season ago.

In his first season in the Royal City, the outfielder hit .250 with two home runs before exploding in the playoffs.

In the Royals run to the finals, the former Kitchener Panther hit three home runs, highlighted by a three-run, go-ahead home run in the series-deciding game five against the Welland Jackfish.

The former division one star at Caninus College said he is looking forward to his first full season with the Royals.

"I’m super excited to be on the field again with the Royals this season. With the way things ended last year, I know me and the boys are fired up to try and bring home a championship.”

Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said he expects big things from Leader this season.

"I truly believe Andy is an MVP calibre player in this league. He didn’t have a proper start to his season last year and I think that impacted him. But I fully expect him to build on his strong playoffs and be an All-Star for us this season.”
