Royals Acquire Infielder Burns From Baycats

by Ryan Eakin

GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce today that we have acquired two-time IBL champion Carson Burns in a trade with the Barrie Baycats.

Burns, 26, joins the Royals after spending the last five-and-a-half seasons with the Baycats.

In his time with the Baycats, Burns, who played on the Baycats' 2018 and 2019 championship teams, batted a lifetime .245 with six home runs and 36 stolen bases.

The lefty bat primarily plays in the infield, but was the Baycats' starting catcher throughout their 2023 IBL Finals run.

Royals manager Dino Roumel said he loves adding a player like Burns to his team.

"Between his experience in the league, defensive versatility, speed, and most importantly, his character, we are so excited to add Carson to our team."

Burns said he is pumped for a fresh start in Barrie.

"I'm super excited to join the Royals organization. I love the team atmosphere, as well as the guys. I think they have something special going on in Guelph this year and I love that I'm going to have the opportunity to be apart of it. I will always cherish my time in Barrie and appreciate my teammates and fans over the years, but I'm thrilled at the opportunity to play under Dino and a new beginning."
