Royals Add Former IBL Rookie of the Year Mendham

by Ryan Eakin

GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce that we have brought back first basemen David Mendham.

Mendham, 24, re-joins the Royals after last playing for the team in 2019.

Before that season, the Oklahoma State Cowboy alum played for the Brantford Red Sox in 2018, winning Rookie of the Year and being named a First-Team All-Star.

In college, the London, Ontario born was every bit as dominant.

In 2020, he was named the Canadian Baseball Network's College Player of the Year after racking up an OPS of 1.401.

Most recently, he batted .312 with 14 home runs for the Cowboys in 2023.

Royals manager Dino Roumel said Mendham is a massive signing for the Royals lineup.

"We are so excited to have David join us. I have watched David play since he was 16. He is coming off a brilliant college career. He is an elite offensive player that will fit perfectly into the middle of our order. Aside from his versatility on the field and his offensive skills, he is a great young man. I had the pleasure of watching his dad play in the IBL and there are similarities in the tough, hardnosed approach, and passion for the game. I am certain Royals fans will embrace David."
